Lisburn Road, Belfast. Boutique shops, cafes, gourmet food, upmarket gift stores and REAL FUR.
In a day and age when the cruelties of the fur trade are well known and documented it’s hard to believe there is still a market for real fur coats and accessories, but certain shops on the Lisburn Road obviously believe there is and they choose to cater for it.
Once a month a group of people drawn together by their desire to see an end to animal suffering gather for peaceful silent protests outside those shops on the Lisburn Road known for selling fur.

The aim of these protests is to raise awareness amongst passers-by that there is still a problem with fur being sold and to act on their conscience and boycott the stores involved.
The protesters have engaged in polite discussion with the shop-owners about the issue who have defended their actions and vowed to continue selling.
So the protests will go ahead until they stop. The protestors who stand in a line outside the shops (so as not to obstruct the pavement) hold placards highlighting the cruelties of the fur trade. Drivers beep their horns in support and people stop to chat.
On Saturday past the protestors braved heavy rain, getting soaked to the skin. But as one protestor said “it’s nothing compared to what the animals have to go through, and we’re here for them”.
