White’s Oats Celebrates 175 Years‏ In The Business

White’s Oats, Northern Ireland’s only Oat Miller and breakfast cereal producer, is celebrating 175 years. A series of events are planned to mark what is a significant milestone for the company as a follow up to the planting of this year’s harvest.

White’s has been locally milling and producing porridge oats and oat cereals since 1841 at the same site in Tandragee, Co. Armagh, and has seen many changes in the growing and harvesting of oats over that time with larger machinery and new methods of working.

White’s takes great care and time over the growing and milling of its oats to ensure the highest quality standards and reasserts its provenance values. Its approach to quality has been endorsed by its considerable success at many National Food Awards and is testimony to the outstanding quality of its products which derives from months of hard work leading up to harvest and right across the supply chain.

James Mathers, White’s General Manager comments, ‘’we are immensely proud of our rich heritage and quality from farm to bowl. We very much look forward to celebrating our 175th anniversary with a special birthday party coinciding with this year’s harvest.’’

Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Cllr Darryn Causby says: “We’re fortunate to have such calibre of companies on our doorstep. White’s Oats is the largest oat miller on the island and its longevity is testimony to the quality of its products and the wider agri-food sector in the borough’’.
“The borough is the Food Heartland of Northern Ireland, home to an incredible mix of artisan producers and internationally acclaimed brands. As part of the Food Heartland campaign we are encouraging the sector to grow further with initiatives such as an export programme for small producers and marketing support to promote all that the area has to offer.”
