MORE than 20,000 students travel outside Northern Ireland to attend university and one local shipping company is ramping up its staffing levels to transport their belongings safely to the UK and beyond.
Uni Baggage.com was set up by Paul Stewart (26) from East Belfast, after he was spending a fortune transporting his belongings back from Edinburgh University.
Finding a gap in the market, this plucky entrepreneur has transformed his business into the UK and Ireland’s leading student shipping company.
To date its customer’s precious cargo has travelled almost 10,000,000 miles around the globe.
The majority of its users are female (70%) which equates to about 17,500 and on average they transport 21kg more belongings than their male counterparts (49kg compared to 28kg).
Uni Baggage offers a full door-to-door service with online tracking each leg of the way and has partnerships with couriers that will pick up luggage from addresses all over the world.
Customers book online, print and attach trackable labels and they will be collected when and where they wish.
The top 5 items that are brought by girls include: clothes, shoes, toiletries, electrical items (hair dryer, straighteners), items for decoration (bed sheets, posters, frames). The top 5 items brought by the men include: clothes, electrical items (games consoles), sporting equipment, books and toiletries.
On average girls take more valuable items. The majority of females’ book £500 worth of compensation cover compared to boys who opt for £100.
