NORTHERN Ireland’s foremost organisations for leadership development are joining forces to help generate a strategy that will help change leadership culture here and contribute to shaping the Assembly’s next Programme for Government.
On Tuesday, September 22, the Institute of Directors (Northern Ireland) and the William J Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s University are running The Strategic Leadership Summit. This will be a highly energetic and participative event designed to help uncover new ways of behaving and doing business with a view to radically growing local economy for the benefit of all our citizens.
Sponsored by leading law firm Arthur Cox, the event will bring together some of the most respected and influential leaders in Northern Ireland’s private and social enterprise sectors to formulate strategic thought around our future.
The recommendations from the Summit will be published and used to engage in discussions with politicians and leaders from the private, public and third sectors, with the aim of having them taken on board in the development of the Assembly’s next Programme for Government.
Linda Brown, Director of the Institute of Directors Northern Ireland (IoD NI), said: “The Summit will pose three questions to the delegates – what does Northern Ireland offer to the world, how do we get focused on the well-being of the Northern Ireland citizen and how do we structure ourselves to meet the challenges of rebalancing the economy and growing the private and social enterprise sectors?
“We have a truly inspiring group of Keynote speakers who will be joining us on the day to share their experiences and stimulate the debate.
“They include Sir John Elvidge of the Carnegie Trust, Tony O’Neill of Dunbia, Chris Brown COO of TUI Aviation (Thomson Airways) and BT Futurologist Dr Nicola Millard. We have engaged the services of the much acclaimed innovation specialists WhatIf! Innovation who will work with us on the day to help stimulate our creating and turn our ideas into a reality.”
Anne Clydesdale, Director of the William J Clinton Leadership Institute said that this year’s event is different in that it “gives every business leader the opportunity to actively contribute, have their voice heard, and play their part in helping to shape a new vision for Northern Ireland”.
She added: “Pre-event, our researchers at Queen’s Management School have gathered together three focus groups, with representatives of private, public and third sector organisations which have produced discussion papers designed to stimulate action-orientated discussion on the day. Delegates will be able to read the papers engage with each other prior to the Summit using our online conferencing tool.
“This is a great opportunity to have an input into how Northern Ireland performs going forward. I want to urge all business leaders to come along and take their seat.”
Meanwhile Alan Taylor, Managing Partner at Arthur Cox Northern Ireland, said Arthur Cox is “passionate about leadership development and how it can impact our local economy”
