NEXT month 25 year-old singer-songwriter Lucy Rose is embarking on yet another huge UK tour, this time to celebrate the release of her second album Work It Out.
Lucy’s debut album, Like I Used To, stunned listeners in 2012 and for the past few years she’s been Bombay Bicycle Club’s secret weapon.
When it came to her second album, Lucy’s label paired her with songwriters in anticipation of the second release but she rejected the experience as co-writing wasn’t for her.
She said: “I can’t just meet someone, give them a hi-5, and say ‘let’s write a pop hit!’ I write music selfishly for me and that’s what I genuinely love doing. It’s my song, not someone else’s.”
With this attitude, Work It Out became a bold statement that surpassed the critical reception of Like I Used To because of its confidence.
When speaking about her new album, which was released this summer, she said: “This record, it’s hopefully going to sort a few things out. Who am I. what I do. It’s direct. I love it. I’m not asking anyone to ‘get me’, but I want people to give it a proper listen.”
Lucy will be stopping by to play a show at the Belfast Empire on October 29.
