THE Newcastle Community Cinema (NCC) has launched their second Full Moon Film Festival.
The festival will take place from October 22-25 in the volunteer led cinema’s new premises.
Following extensive refurbishment of the town’s St Mary’s Hall, the Festival signifies a new phase for the community cinema and is testimony to a new partnership with the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. NCC hope to bring great movies into the heart of Newcastle as they establish themselves in these fantastic new premises.
Promising to be bigger and better than last year’s successful event, the programme promises even more film riches with everything from music documentaries and exclusive Irish films, to 80s style sci fi action, James Dean and even a spot of Disney.
With newly renovated town centre premises finally secured, the movie-mad group of volunteers have been focused on pulling together the best possible array of films to suit all tastes for this year’s Full Moon.
Among the films being shown is a UK exclusive double bill of two fantastic features inspired by Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
The first, Raiders: The Adaptation, is a shot for shot retelling made by a tenacious group of 12 year olds from Mississippi back in 1982.
The second, The Story Of The Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, is a documentary telling the story of this very endeavour. Hugely charming and massively enjoyable from start to finish, these unique films headline on Saturday night from 8pm.
Critically acclaimed NI Director, Alex Fegan will be joining the Festival for a Q&A session, before an exclusive screening of two of his typically Irish documentaries – Older than Ireland and The Irish Irish Pub Film. Music fans will also be glad to hear that two fascinating and insightful documentaries are coming their way with the life stories of the sadly departed modern heroes, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse.
No film festival would be complete without a spot of Disney.
Younger cinema goers can see The Little Mermaid, dressed as their favourite character for the chance to win a prize. Therer will also be a screening of The Borrowers, following a themed workshop for the little ones to immerse in the tiny world of the ‘little-er’ ones!
