BANGOR author Sonia Boal has achieved her dream of bringing an environmental message to children through a work of fiction.
The Letter From Santa, released earlier this month, is illustrated by County Down artist Jo Hatty and according to publisher Tina Calder of Excalibur Press is “a charming festive tale that gently delivers a serious environmental message to children”.
The book was officially launched at Parliament Buildings, Stormont on Monday, December 14, 2015 by the Green Party’s Steven Agnew.
The North Down MLA said: “I am delighted to be supporting local author Sonia Boal as she publishes her first children’s book.
“The Letter from Santa is a lovely story, combining a message of giving in a world of finite resources.
“Sonia has cleverly taken these important themes and worked them into a tangible tale which children will understand and appreciate.

According to Sonia The Letter from Santa, priced £6.99, highlights green issues to a young audience in a light and fun manner.
The mother of two added: “It allows them to contemplate how they can make a difference all year round; even at Christmas when their thoughts are elsewhere.
“I’d like children to know that they can make a difference to the world they live in. It’s the world they are eventually going to have to deal with. Thinking of my boys, I don’t want to think that they will have problems with persistent flooding or high winds, but it’s looking more and more likely.
“I want to teach children that our actions have consequences, in fact our inaction has consequence too, and if we ignore the warning signs, we invariably end up paying the cost of this.”
