5 Things To Remember Before Dating A Guy From Northern Ireland

Ah, Northern Irish men. They might be an odd bunch, but there’s a few things you can be pretty certain of if you’re planning on dating one…

1. Expect Nando’s Followed By Laverys On Your First Date

For some reason, Nando’s in Belfast is the go-to ‘restaurant’ when it comes to dating. Overpriced chicken is the Northern Irish man’s way of trying to show off, followed by alcohol (obviously) in a place he feels familiar in.

What can I say, NI folk love their tradition. Not exactly groundbreaking but his heart will be in the right place.

2. He Doesn’t Really Do Convential Romance

Here in Northern Ireland we show affection by throwing insults at those we love. Men in these parts also aren’t the most romantic of sorts. So don’t expect too be wooed by Shakespearean poetry or showered with eloquent compliments.

You can, however, enjoy his self-deprecating humour and humble nature. Even better, join in!

…And he always will. For many NI boys, their Mummy will always come first. Unfortunately for future dating prospects this means that they might still be 30, living at home and not know how to work a washing machine.

Look on the bright side, if you get in his Mum’s good books you’ll earn major plus points.

4. You’ll Definitely Know Someone He Knows

It’s part and parcel of living in this wee country, you can’t leave the house without seeing someone you know. The is true when it comes to dating.

If you’re both from NI, don’t be surprised if you know his brother’s best mate/sister/uncle. Just make sure you aren’t actually second cousins.

Half price pints on a Wednesday? You’ll never be bored if you date a guy from Norn Iron because they’re always game for the craic.

We love any excuse for a night out so you can be sure of a good time, Mother issues and Nando’s aside.
