When Jacquelyn Stewart was diagnosed with skin cancer, she was desperate to find a supply of fresh wheatgrass to help her health. As she struggled to find any, the idea to launch her own company sparked and in 2010 this idea became a firmly established company – Squeeze Wheatgrass.
Artisan health company Squeeze Wheatgrass is helping consumers over Northern Ireland eat cleanly. As more and more people wish to improve their health, there’s been a boom in healthy eating and the consumption of superfoods. Even better, you can find it at your local Tesco.
Celebs like Simon Cowell, Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow have all spoken out about the benefits of wheatgrass juice and many claim one ounce of the juice is the nutritional equivalent of 1kg of leafy green vegetables.
Wheatgrass juice contains over 90 minerals, including potassium, calcium, magnesium and sodium which boost the immune system and fight disease. Wheatgrass is also known to be high in chlorophyll, the most healing element on earth, which cleanses and builds the blood. The juice also detoxes the liver and blood. With twice the amount of vitamin A as carrots, more vitamin C than oranges and a complete source of protein, wheatgrass provides the body with all of the essential amino acids.
Now the Managing Director, Jacquelyn Stewart began growing and juicing her own wheatgrass from her kitchen and within a matter of weeks her hair, skin and energy levels had incredibly improved. Seeing the new burst of life of sick Jacquelyn, her friends and family were inspired to start drinking wheatgrass too and the gap in the market for this delicious superfood in a ready-to-drink product became obvious.
Jacquelyn also identified the need for wheatgrass juice with an extended shelf life without harmful additives and preservatives. From there her aim became to make this superfood convenient, accessible and natural for her customers.
Highly commended in the Superfoods category at the FreeFrom Food Awards held in the Royal College of Physicians in London earlier this year, Squeeze Wheatgrass has been going from strength to strength. Jacquelyn is the UK’s only producers of ready to drink wheatgrass shots with a 12 week extended shelf life and Squeeze Wheatgrass is one of Northern Ireland’s fastest growing health food companies.
As a fully traceable product, consumers are able to find out where their wheatgrass was grown, harvested, juiced, processed and packaged so they can feel reassured that the wheatgrass they drink is as fresh as possible. Jacquelyn’s wheatgrass is grown in County Down in a hydroponics farm with no additives or preservatives added at any point during the production.
As part of the Tesco Artisan sampling programme, Squeeze Wheatgrass was thrown into the mainstream consumer market by the big name supermarket, Tesco, and has been thriving ever since.
