An international best selling self-help audio author, Glenn Harrold has worked his way up from homelessness, alcohol and drug dependency to become one of the world’s most respected hypnotists.
His work over the last 20 years has helped millions of people overcome negative behaviour patterns and achieve astounding results in many aspects of their lives. Having used several of his hypnosis and meditation apps myself, I talked to Glenn about how he came to practice hypnosis meditations and some exciting new projects on the horizon.
Hi Glenn! What sparked your interest in becoming a self-help author?
For a number of years in the 1980s and early 1990s I made a living as a musician playing my guitar in a duo in pubs, clubs and bars. It was during this time that I would occasionally share the bill with various stage hypnotists.
Although these theatrical events sparked my interest in hypnosis, it was the potential of hypnosis to change and heal destructive patterns of behaviour that appealed to me, rather than to entertain.
After passing a two-year diploma course with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis in the early 1990s I became a qualified hypnotherapist. I soon built a busy private practice in my local area and gained great personal satisfaction from helping people overcome their problems.
How did hypnosis and meditation practices affect your own life?
I’d spent most of my early life in a state of struggle. I often slept rough from the age of 12, was expelled from school at 15, had serious drink and drug problems and the rest.
I was drawn into the world of hypnotherapy initially because I needed to fix my own bad programming. After training and qualifying as a hypnotherapist in my early thirties I started to use my healing skills to clear away many destructive patterns of behaviour I’d been carrying since my childhood. Regularly using self-hypnosis, meditation and the Law of Attraction transformed my life.
Now in my early fifties I have been a non-smoker for 25 years, a vegetarian for 20 years and am as fit and healthy as I have ever been. I swim regularly, play tennis three times a week and practice yoga.
I’ve written 7 books for major publishers in the UK and US and my hypnosis and meditation recordings have sold over 7 million worldwide and counting.
I am a good example of the transformative power of self-hypnosis and meditation.
When did you first start releasing audio tracks and what has been the peak moment of your success?
After spending a number of years seeing up to 25 clients a week in the mid 1990’s, I drew upon my musical background and began making hypnosis tapes and then later CDs and downloads, primarily to support my work with my clients.
I started by recording tapes at my small home studio, duplicating them one by one, printing off covers and then driving round and selling them to local stores for a £5 each, on a sale-or-return basis.
Within a few short years my best seller Complete Relaxation, won a gold disk for sales of over £250,000 of from Nielsen book data. This was the only gold disk ever awarded to a self-help author, so this was one of my highlights.
What are your most popular hypnosis tracks?
A few years ago I created a range of 6 titles with Ali Calderwood called the Solfeggio Sonic Meditations. The 6 main solfeggio frequencies are 396hz, 417hz, 528hz, 639hz, 714hz and 852hz. These sacred tones each resonate to specific frequencies that our original blueprint is composed from. Exposing ourselves to these frequencies helps to bring our bodies, cells and DNA back into balance.
This is how the ancient Solfeggio frequencies work and is why the Gregorian monks used this specific scale for chanting and healing. The music with this series of meditations has been specially crafted and precisely tuned to transmit each of the solfeggio frequencies. By combining these sounds with a guided meditation, you also have the potential to release deep-rooted blockages.

You’ve had lots of national press coverage as well as great testimonials from high-profile figures. What is your favourite part of your work?
Without doubt it is the feedback I get from end users of my recordings. It blows me away that so many people have experienced life changing transformations from using my recordings. I get a real buzz each morning reading reviews and feedback on a multitude of social media site and platforms. My family also take the mickey and ask me if I am busy reading my reviews when they call! It is my little indulgence!
How important do you think mindfulness and meditation practices are in our current society?
They are more important than ever as there is so much chaos and confusion in the world, and the only safe way to navigate through it and stay empowered is to find strength inside through meditation practices.
Daily use of self-hypnosis, meditation and mindfulness will keep you balanced and strong. By switching off your intellectual mind and connecting with positive thoughts and feelings in a deep state of meditation you will allow your cells to recharge and you will feel more relaxed and energised when you come back to full waking consciousness.
What upcoming projects do you have?
I am just releasing a new Law of Attraction audio title which will be available as an MP3 and as an Apple and Android App. Plus I also have a new book in the pipeline which I am writing here in Spain. This should be released sometime in 2017.
