Aromatherapy using essential oils has become one of the fastest growing natural healing arts in the UK. Extracted from seeds, bark, stems, flowers and many other parts of plants, essential oils are natural, aromatic compounds packed full of therapeutic properties.
The use of essential oils is about more than just fragrance, it promotes physical, emotional, spiritual and mental balance. They can be used regularly for almost every aspect of your day to lift mood, calm anxieties and evoke powerful emotional responses.
Complementary therapist Orla Kelly from Heart Scented Aromatherapy said: “Modern trends toward more holistic approaches to self care and growing scientific validation of alternative health practices are driving a rediscovery of the profound health benefits of essential oils.”
This weekend (July 16 & 17, 2016) Orla will be one of a number of exhibitors at the SOMA Music Festival Body & Soul area in Castlewellan.
So how can essential oils help transform your day? From morning blues to mid-week work stresses, there is an essential oil that can enhance your day and help you balance mind and body.
Here are Orla’s 7 ways essential oils can transform your day:
1. Wake Up To An Energy Boost
Many of us find ourselves wanting to crawl back under the covers at the sound of an alarm, but you can naturally boost your energy in the morning and throughout the day with oils such as Basil, Ginger, Jasmine, Lemon and Peppermint.
2. Calm Anxiety And Stress
Anxiety is a natural response to certain situations, but some people are more regularly afflicted by it than others. When triggers arise that cause anxiousness, try calming your mind with Lavender, Mandarin, Frankincense and Sandalwood.
3. Raise Your Confidence
Our confidence levels can dip throughout the day, whether it be from a harsh word from a stranger or not achieving short term goals. Jasmine, Rosemary and Orange essential oils can help boost your confidence and give you a sense of self assurance.
4. Alleviate Depression
People experience depression at varying levels and our mood can change throughout the day. If you’re feeling down try Geranium, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage or Bergamot essential oils to ease the heaviness of depressive moods.
5. Soothe Anger And Tension
Anger is another emotion that can surface unexpectedly or as a result of certain triggers. Bergamot, Jasmine, Patchouli and Ylang Ylang can help disperse these feelings.
6. Release Fear
We often let fear hold us back from the things we want to do. It is a common emotion that does not indicate weakness but rather a conditioned response where our brain is simply trying to protect us. Fearful symptoms can be diffused by Neroli, Cedarwood, Roman Chamomile, Grapefruit or Orange essential oils.
7. Enhance Happiness And Peace
We all need a little injection of happiness sometimes. Using Bergamot, Geranium, Lemon, Rose, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang can induce a sense of joy, happiness and peace.
