Stage and screen star Billy Cullum has released a vibrant, marimba-infused pop single Lost In You produced by Alex Bakker (Sigma).
Working full time as an actor, Billy has recently been achieving rave reviews performing as the lead Mark Cohen in the 20th Anniversary production of the musical Rent. Aside from music and acting, Billy’s other major passion is choreography and he has recently worked on music videos with Perfume Genius, Kero Kero Benito and MS MR.
Influenced by artists such as MØ, Charlie XCX, Tove Lo, Lorde & Years & Years, Billy describes his single Lost In You as being about “Our curiosity as humans. It’s about being in a relationship and getting side-tracked by someone. It’s a push and pull song of the mind whether to act on impulse or for it to remain as fantasy.”
Billy initially began tentatively putting his music online a couple of years ago and received a great reaction to his debut single Back To My Youth, but decided to take a step back and went back into the studio to write his album.
“I wasn’t ready for it all then. I had no clue who I was and that means I wasn’t sure of who I was an artist. People were trying to make me go in all different directions and it just wasn’t working. Getting to the cusp of signing a record deal and never actually going through with anything made me step back and evaluate everything. It was taking a break that catapulted me into writing my debut album as an independent artist.”
There are more singles and an album Lonely Hearts Club planned for later this year with some live shows to be announced soon.
