Review: The Serenity Elemis Spa At Gweedore Court Hotel

An ChĂșirt Gweedore Court Hotel & Spa is unique in both setting and style, availing of Donegal’s stunning Gaeltacht area and boasting “understated luxury” for all who are welcomed through its doors.

Serenity ReceptionNeedless to say, I was excited to be able to review this one-of-a-kind hotel and spa, travelling through the famous Emerald Mountain Peaks past picturesque forests and lakes to reach my destination.

Just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, Gweedore Court Hotel is set on a private 100 acre estate and boasts 60 individually styled guest rooms and suites.

A luxury country retreat, the hotel also offers all-day fine dining at The Duck Restaurant, cocktails at the PJD Bar, a full size swimming pool complete with a relaxing Hydrotherapy section, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and a large gymnasium.

However, after spending the afternoon on a coach, it was their award-winning Serenity Spa that really interested me. After settling into my room – an elegantly decorated twin that combined both style and comfort – I headed to the spa for a Deep Tissue Back Massage.

The staff at the Serenity Spa are clearly naturals at their work, giving a warm welcome and making you feel instantaneously relaxed. I was provided with a warm dressing gown and slippers and seized the opportunity to unwind in the relaxation room before my treatment.

The spa’s state-of-the-art design effortlessly induces calm with dimmed lighting, ambient background music, candles and an earthy colour scheme.

The massage began in one of the warm, inviting treatment rooms with a friendly and experienced masseuse. I was holding a lot of tension in my upper back which, as a writer, I was not particularly surprised about.

Adjusting the pressure where necessary, the massage therapist managed to release a lot of this muscle tension and I slowly felt the week’s workload melt away.

As the treatment ended I was encouraged to stay and chill out in the relaxation room outside, where clients can recline on large seats and enjoy a chilled drink. This was perfectly topped off with a dip in the relaxing Hydrotherapy Pool and jacuzzi.

The hotel is undoubtedly worth a visit for its location alone. And although the rugged Irish scenery is a therapy within itself, the Serenity Elemis Spa offers the ultimate luxury spa experience in a unique and welcoming environment.

If you prefer to be out and about exploring the area, the hotel grounds are home to a pet farm, a large lake with fishing facilities and nearby walking and hiking tracks. Fusing traditional country style with pure indulgence, Gweedore’s finest retreat should definitely have a place on your Travel To-Do list.
