Comedy quartet, The Sick Sense are back this month with a bigger, bolder version of last year’s sell out gig.
Bill Taylor, Stephen Barrett, and brothers Chris and Andrew Jones Cassidy, who make up the fantastic foursome, premiered at last year’s Belfast Comedy Festival. Now coming to the Black Box, Belfast, their ‘Give Us A TV Show’ show is an eclectic mix of filmed sketches and live banter, bringing back some favourite characters, as well as new creations.
Bill has been writing and making films for over ten years, “I hope to get good at it, while waiting on the call to join The A Team,” said Bill, whose love for comedy grew from making people laugh.
With sell out shows at The MAC, Black Box, and The Belfast Fringe Festival, Stephen has been writing and performing since 2008. In 2014, his film ‘Hoplophobia’ won the Audience Choice Award at Film Devour, which is where he met the others who would go on to form The Sick Sense. “My goal in life is to prove you can get somewhere by acting the eejit.”
After obtaining a Degree in Drama from Queen’s University, Andrew went on to be the lead singer and lyricist in ‘Cursed Sun’, and feels performing is in his blood. “I’m always looking for new roles, and have a real interest comedy. Joining The Sick Sense crew was the obvious choice. It’s the perfect combination for creating, writing, acting and improvisation.”
Originally from Portadown, Chris has been a musician for most of his life, and now lives in Dublin with his family. He also had an itch to write, direct and perform in various short films and sketches, and found his niche with the The Sick Sense. “We are a creative foursome who are more than capable of grabbing the opportunity to get our unique voice and vision out to the masses.”
Andrew agrees and hopes this show will prove they are a group of writers and comedians who deliver original material, for not only a local market, but also beyond Northern Ireland. “I believe we are creating comedy that feels like a breath of fresh air to our audiences.” he said.
“We’d love to take the show to the Edinburgh Fringe,” said Stephen, “and show comedy written here can travel.”
“Absolutely,” agreed Bill, “we want to deliver unique and insightful comedy to many a crowd for a long time to come, with the ultimate aim being our own TV show.”
Landing at the Black Box, Belfast, on 23rd June, is their biggest performance yet. They are very excited, and Chris said “The Sick Sense ‘Give Us a TV Show’ Show is a dark and edgy, sketch based comedy with absolutely NO apologies. It ain’t just a clever name – you have been warned!”
This no holds barred performance gives the audience a unique insight into the minds of this talented bunch, and it’s not for the easily offended; there’s a whole lot of sickness in there!
