Northern Ireland music legend, singer Sir Van Morrison has revealed he doesn’t know why people think he’s so grumpy.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph during a promotional campaign for his upcoming album, Roll With The Punches (released on September 22) the singer said his open-air 70th birthday concerts, which were held in Cyprus Avenue, Belfast, two years ago, filled him with delight.
He added: “That was the source of so many things for me, and I still feel a close connection with it.”
Over the years, the performer has developed a reputation for being grumpy, having walked off stage during a set on more than one occasion, and for his taciturnity with interviewers.
However, the singer reckons his reputation in the media has been greatly exaggerated.
He said: “I think there’s been so much written about me being dead serious, and never smiling and all the rest of it, that the label will never go away.
“That is totally absurd because there’s a lot of humour in my work – at least I think there is – and as the people who come to my gigs know, there’s a lot of humour there too.”
