Get To Know More About Logy:
What do you do?
“I am a street performer and circus tutor, I teach with Streetwise Community Circus and Belfast Circus School.”
How did you get started in the industry?
“I was originally a tattooist in Limavady then during the recession/credit crunch there wasn’t a lot of work going, I decided to move to Belfast to find work then joined a juggling club out of boredom. One thing led to another and after about a year I was traveling Europe street performing.”
What genre / style do you create in?
“Circus, Comedy and Street Theatre.”
What would you be best known for?
“I have performed in many festivals over the world but I did recently appear on BBC Glastonbury having presenter Hugh Stephens stand on me as I lie on a bed of broken glass while Lauren Laverne held my beard.”
What would you consider your biggest achievement?
“Becoming sponsored by the Belfast Beard Company and having my own beard oil made.”
What would you consider to be the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your industry?
“You always need to work way harder than you think, nothing gets handed to you. Though it never hurts to ask.”
What has been your biggest challenge to date?
“My first every comedy circus solo stage show being performed at this year’s Belfast Comedy Festival.”
Tell us a little about your personal life, are you married, kids, hobbies etc?
“I love to travel, still very much into tattoos and art. I try and paint when I can and work with wood. I’ve been trying to get back into music and playing instruments again, and I’m going to incorporate some of this into new shows in the new year.”
Tell us about your most recent work?
“I have just come back from Edinburgh Fringe doing street and stage shows. One of the reasons I love street shows and street theatre is that it brings live entertainment to everyone regardless of age, background, gender, finance or class. It makes it accessible and open, and it brings people together, strangers standing side by side and all feeling part of something, laughing together and enjoying it.7
“Price of a Pint Is a circus comedy show I performed in in the Black Box, Belfast on October 4 – a Rock n Roll comedy show full of skillful object manipulation, bringing traditional vaudeville and parlour tricks to you with a comedy twist and new age style. Escapology, whips and possible lacerations, climaxing in a perilous display of equilibrium and custom made razor sharp unique object juggling like you have never seen before! The show was raw, rock n’ roll, and full of danger. All for the price of a pint!!”
If you had to describe your work to someone who has never heard of you what would you say?
“Slick, funny and entertaining. I throw and catch stuff and make people smile while doing it.”
What would your advice be to young people hoping to pursue the same industry?
“Go for it! Don’t listen to people who say you can’t do something, or ‘that’s stupid’. One of the tricks that I perform is balancing on top of a large box on top of 8 smaller boxes on a plank of wood, on a pipe on another plank of wood, on two more boxes on top of another plank, and juggling three random dangerous objects. That is part of my job. When I told people that’s what I wanted to do years ago there was not a lot of support. But you don’t listen to them, you can do anything you want but you do have to work hard for it.”
Who do you look up to and why?
“Mr Weeble, he makes music and videos. He makes music about silly fun things and people love it. He doesn’t listen to people who say, ‘making a song about a scotch egg isn’t going to sell’. People need to play more, have fun and take things less seriously.”
