8 Top Tips For Getting Your Mascara Right

Mascara is a staple of any girls make-up bag, but unfortunately, there are some big bug bears when it comes to this must-have product. Sometimes it goes clumpy, sometimes it dries out too quick and sometimes it goes on your eyelid when you’ve already done your eye make-up – don’t you just hate that?

Don’t fret though, here are our top tips for having perfect mascara every time:

1. Have you accidentally got a spot of mascara on your eyelid over your eye make-up? Don’t worry, a dry q-tip gently placed on top of the offending spot and twisted will remove the mascara spot without removing your make-up.

2. To avoid getting mascara on your face when applying it to your lower lids, put a spoon underneath your lashes first, it will catch all the excess.

3. Has your mascara gone clumpy and dry? No problem, adding a few drops of saline solution into the tube will loosen it up and make it last longer. You can also try soaking the tube in a cup of hot water to loosen the clumps. On that note, if you’ve already applied it before realising it was clumpy, brush your lashes with a dry toothbrush to get rid of the clumps.

4. Sometimes applying your mascara can be tricky, especially trying to get it on those smaller, finer hairs at the inner corner. To make it a bit easier on yourself, bend the wand at the brush. It will be easier to hold and navigate towards the inner corners of your eyes.

5. To have a cleaner application, wipe off any excess mascara on to a sheet of tissue paper before applying.

6. For thicker lashes, coat both sides with mascara. First the top, then the underside. You can also use a little powder between the first and second applications to give your lashes a fuller look. Also, holding the wand horizontally will give your lashes a thicker look, while holding it vertically gives a more natural look.

7. For a longer lasting look, use regular mascara first, then coat it with waterproof mascara. This method also makes your mascara easier to remove at the end of the day.

8. Wiggle the brush at the base of the lashes before sweeping it towards the tips. This helps separate the lashes and gives a fuller look.
