30:30 DAY 2 (29/03/2018)- IT’S A Twin Thing
My twin, Ryan Dillon & and I came into the world in a hurry, 12 weeks early to be precise. My mother being the sensitive soul that she was informed us that we were “the ugliest things she ever seen, we looked liked shaved hedgehogs/ Millennium babies (gloop based creatures encased in gel), due to are under-developed skin/lungs. Anyone who knows me will notice that the spelling of my name is strange to say the least. I was not offered an explanation until the year of my mum’s passing. Apparently we were so unwell that we were given 24 hours to live, my mum had settled on Ryan’s name but hated my proposed name “Kelvin”. The priest who came to christen us as a precaution offered the name of “Emmette” as they had meet an Emmette on their travels, to be honest, I assumed the priest in question had dyslexia. What can I say about my “womb buddy”?
Ryan is one in a million, he is loyal, has a slightly disturbing sense of humour (he is quiet when you don’t know him, but view my Whatssap messages and then tell me he is sensible). I envy Ryan so much because Ryan & Hannah (Banana) have created two incredible little humans, my two nephews, Conchur and Odhran. I hope that I might have the opportunity to be half the parent that you both are.Ryan, we may not look that much alike but I love you more than you will ever know, you have had my back despite whatever we have faced. You love without judgement or disapproval, when I told you about Jay, you simply asked was I happy and when you could meet him. I may not show my appreciation at times or be around enough, but our bond defies location, or time.
I am glad that you have found your calling; you personify what it is to have a caring nature. We have come a long way from eating leaves, wearing black bags as capes (our attempt at impersonating our favourite super heroes). I know mummy is so proud of you, more than you could ever understand. I hate you a little because when they were handing out common sense in heaven, I went back to the nose line for a second time. Our bond is hard to explain, but we get it and will always have each other’s backs. Keep doing you, I have no doubt that you will achieve great things and your and Hannah’s boys will make you more than proud.
People won’t get the twin bond, but we grew up passing each other gifts that were based on a perceived joint interest. The only time that I could say that we had a strange “twin vibe” was the night before our transfer test. I had a sickening feeling that something was wrong and you arrived home with a forehead split open. I am glad we have carved out our own paths in life but I am equally comforted by the fact that we are closer than we have ever been and will hopefully it will always be that way. Conchur and Odhran share the best of both of Hannah’s and your characteristics, I can’t wait to witness what intelligent, caring and well rounded young men they will become.
Love you freckles
Emmette Dillon
