6 Makeup Trends To Shake Up Your Summer

We’re all fans of the classic smokey eye, a gorgeous cat-flick, and a sultry red lip, but it’s easy to fall into a tired and boring makeup routine.

There’s no better time to shake up your look and try something new than a change of season, so here are our top six makeup trends to shake up your summer:

1. Be Bold
If you’re a fan of neutral eyes and wearable shades, you should try experimenting with a splash of colour this summer. There are a wide variety of inexpensive palettes available on the high street, so you can experiment with this trend without breaking the bank.

Missoni, and Marni both had bright eyed models on their Spring/Summer 2018 runways, and Kim Kardashian has been known to pull off a blue shadow, which is set to be a trend for summer.

2. Go Natural
Maintaining a full face of makeup in summer can be difficult at the best of times, with your foundation slipping off your face, and your eyeliner looking more like lip liner by the end of the day.

Luckily, heavy brows, over-lined lips, and severe contouring are out, and a more natural and fresh look is in. A sweep of bronzer for a sun-kissed look, and a touch of neutral-toned blush for a healthy glow, are all that’s required to ace this look.

3. Glitter, Set, Go!
It’s a makeup item that adorned every teenage girl’s makeup kit, and now it’s back with a grown up twist. Always popular at festivals, glitter is going mainstream. From subtle glitter eyeliner, to full-on glitter shadow across your whole lid, and even glitter lip kits for a clubbing-esque look, play around with colours and see what works for you.

4. Out of this World
Think space-age, think holographic lip gloss. Keep the rest of your look simple, with defined brows, smudged eyeliner, mascara, and softly sculpted cheeks. You could even try adding a dab of product on your eyelids, or your cheekbones instead of highlighter.

5. Embrace Grunge
More glitter fever, but this time it’s been reversed – being smudged and smoked out on the lower lid instead of the top. For the best example we could find, check out the Armani Spring/Summer catwalk. Find some tutorials on YouTube and get practising to create this eye-catching look.

6. Fluttery Lashes
Coloured mascara may feel like a throwback to the 80s, but if you want to try out this look, we suggest you put on two layers of black (or brown) as you would usually, and add a flash of colour to the tips of your lashes. Try a fun shade like bright blue or fuschia, or if you want to try something more subtle go for a dark purple.

To make your eyes really pop – green-eyed girls stick with copper and red undertones, brown-eyed beauties go with purples and orange shades, and blue-eyed babes try blue or gold.
