Fashion By Patience: Looking Fab In Winter Woolies

When it comes to wearing winter woolies you can be forgiven for thinking they are frumpy. I’ve found over the years that if they’re worn with the right outfit a lovely, colourful winter wooly hat can set off any look.

I’ve chosen some beanie style pom pom hats from high street retailers to get a feel for what looks are hot right now.

One of the things I love is the colour selection available, from vibrant lime greens to beautiful pastel pinks and blues right through to animal print, there’s definitely a nice winter wooly for everyone.

And the price is great too, with most ranging from as low as £3 in the sales to around £10.

Here are my top tips for wearing these hats:

1. Right hat for your head

When choosing a hat spend some time trying them on, see what fits in terms of shape, size, bulk and pom poms. Think about how you will want to wear your beanie – over your ears and covering your forehead or will you wear it slightly higher on your head with your fringe showing.

2. How will you wear your hair?

Think about how you will mostly wear your hair when you have a hat on. It’s better to wear your hair all down or in low pigtails, ponytail or plaits so that you don’t end up with a weird bulge in your hat making your head look a strange shape.

3. What colour?

Think about your outfits. Do you want a neutral tone hat that will blend with any outfit or do you want something striking that can contrast and stand out?

4. What will you wear your hat with?

You don’t want to look frumpy so think about what you will be wearing your hat with. Other accessories such as scarves and bags should complement not create a garish look.

Also, what will your coat look like with it as opposed to your indoor clothes – you’ll unlikely be wearing your hat without a coat!
