Black Box Hosts Exhibition Exploring Response To Being Bipolar

Belfast’s Black Box is currently hosting an online exhibition from Co Clare artist Lindsey Power, whose dynamic work explores the effects of living with Bipolar and the associated issues, such as mental health. Originally intended to be part of the ongoing art exhibitions in the venues Green Room, Lindsey’s energetic and challenging portraiture can be viewed on the Black Box website. She is a Mixed Media multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Co Clare. Her work explores the fluid dynamic between opposing states of mind. It is described as: “Chaotic mark making is slowly subdued resolving problematic issues into a functioning harmonious narrative. “Paintings are often transformed from the brink of disorder into glimpses of landscapes to be travelled and the ever changing life of flora. “The process whilst being explorative is emotionally soothing and aims to open up dialogue regarding mental health issues.” Lindsey Studied at The Chesterfield College of Art and Design before attending Derby University to study photography. On leaving University Lindsey went back to her first love of painting. She currently is Resident at The Courthouse Gallery and Studios Ennistymon, Clare. Lindsey is in the process of building her own teaching studio. Lindsey approaches everyday imagery for example wildlife with expressionist mark making based on her personal experience and state of mind. Her aim is to make the work accessible to all and to open dialogue regarding mental health awareness. Both exploratory and cathartic Lindsey’s art is consistently evolving and surprising. Currently Lindsey is working on explorative drawing techniques that begin frenzied and finish calm and deliberate. This process is one she describes as emotionally soothing. The exhibition runs online until November 1 here >> https://www.blackboxbelfast.com/event/exhibition-lindsey-power/?instance_id=75768
