Caitlin is a 23 year old Writer and Director from Belfast. Caitlin’s dad is an actor, Sean Kearns, and he introduced her to the wonderful and magical world of the theatre. Caitlin originally wanted to become an actor, but then decided that working as a writer and director, helping to make the stories you see onstage was her real passion.
What genre / style do you create in?
Whatever best suits the story I’m trying to tell, be that comedy, drama or something else entirely.
What would you be best known for?
Probably my Monologue series, which I released earlier in the year. They’ve amassed over 9000 views and have proven to be a real launch pad for me as a writer, which I’m very grateful for.
What would you consider your biggest achievement?
Getting Arts Council funding for my monologues this year was pretty amazing.
What would you consider to be the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your industry?
Everyone is on their own path, so try not to compare yourself to others.
What has been your biggest challenge to date?
I directed a production of Mr Incredible by Camilla Whitehill that was on at the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool. We rehearsed it over here in Belfast, before going over to Liverpool the day of the show. It was manic, but the show is something I’m immensely proud of.
Tell us a little about your personal life, are you married, kids, hobbies etc?
Currently living at home with my parents and our rescue dog Mavis. I love baking, and watching old Simpsons episodes with my partner Keith.
Tell us about your most recent work?
I’m currently working on a new audio drama podcast called Trysts, which is a collective of six emerging Northern Irish writers creating new audio drama. It’s been great connecting with other creatives, and I’m really excited about the work we are going to produce together.
If you had to describe your work to someone who has never heard of you what would you say?
A bit funny, a bit sad and always honest.
What would your advice be to young people hoping to pursue the same industry?
If you’ve got the talent and you’ve got the determination you will make it. It might take 2 years, it might take 20, but you’ll get there.
Anything else you want to tell people about yourself or your work?
I feel incredibly lucky that I get to make work and tell stories, long may it continue!

Who do you look up to and why?
My dad. From a young age I’ve seen him carry himself with the upmost professionalism on and offstage. Plus he’s an amazing actor to boot.
Caitlin’s work was showcased at Belfast Culture Night 2020 earlier in the year, you can watch her work here
