Meet The Artist: BECAH

BECAH is a 25 year old singer and song-writer from Lurgan. Becah began performing around her local scene and then got involved with song-writing competitions. These competitions helped put Becah in touch with the people who have since taken her under their wing and believed in her music, including Dootdoot Records, AER Music and Dawson’s Music, Belfast.

What genre / style do you create in?

online pharmacy amitriptyline buy with best prices today in the USA

Indie and alternative.

What would you be best known for?

I have a bit of a rep for writing pretty sad songs.

What would you consider your biggest achievement?

Playing support to Aslan and Brian Kennedy.

What would you consider to be the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your industry?

I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that it doesn’t just boil down to the quality of your material, but also your work ethic. So much work goes on behind the scenes, and it’s equally as important to be consistent and reliable within that as it is to be producing great tracks.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?

Overcoming the fear of getting up on stage for sure! My voice would shake and I’d stumble over my lyrics constantly while playing live. It’s something that takes a whole lot of getting used to. I think nervous butterflies are a given, but now I’m always just excited to get on stage and perform.

Tell us a little about your personal life, are you married, kids, hobbies etc?

On the other side of music, I’m a barista. Also read a lot, never miss an episode of Dragon’s Den and binge far too much on Netflix.

Tell us about your most recent work?

Most recently I released my debut single ‘Forget’ in July. It was recorded with the incredible Michael Mormecha in Tree Song Studios. You can check it out on all streaming platforms.

What would you like us to tell people about?

My new single ‘Ghost’. It was the first song I ever sat down and finished when I initially began writing so I’m really excited to get it out in it’s new form. It’ll be the lead single from my debut EP ‘Freak’ that’s set for release at the end of November.

If you had to describe your work to someone who has never heard of you what would you say?

An indie-alternative sound with lyrics that tug on the heart strings.

What’s the funniest experience you’ve had in your business?

I was playing to a crowd of about 100 people and fell backwards completely off my stool. Worst of it was I hadn’t even started singing and still had my entire set to play whilst being absolutely mortified. Safe to say it wasn’t funny for me at the time, only thinking back on it now though.

What would your advice be to young people hoping to pursue the same industry?

Persistence and dedication. There’s always going to be a few knock backs along the way, but it’ll only make you better. Stay focused and work hard at your craft. Write and play as much as you can. You can never learn enough.

Anything else you want to tell people about yourself or your work?

Check out my socials – Facebook/Instagram/Twitter @becah_music.

Who do you look up to and why?

I’ve always looked up to artists like Alanis Morrisette, Tegan & Sara and Norah Jones. They taught me how to write with honesty. Not to mention Jeff Buckley, the reason I wanted to learn guitar in the first place just so I could play his music.
