Meet The Artist: Fleur Mellor

Fleur Mellor is a 40 year old Theatrical Producer and Choreographer from Northern Ireland. Fleur started in the industry as a dancer and is well known for her work with Peter Corry Productions.

What genre / style do you create in?

Ooh all kinds of styles, just as long as it’s live.

What would you be best known for?

I know this is a professional credit question but I’m going to say my fairness and kind approach.

What would you consider your biggest achievement?

Finally seeing myself as more than ‘just’ a dancer which took a long time.

What would you consider to be the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your industry?

Patience.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?

C-19 and a whole year’s work being wiped out in 3 weeks.

Tell us a little about your personal life, are you married, kids, hobbies etc?

Married, with 3 kids. No pets. Love to travel, read, learn. I marry people as a humanist wedding celebrant.

Tell us about your most recent work?

Most recent work I’m really proud of: www.fleurmellor.com/nico

What would you like us to tell people about?

Our production company is unique to NI being the only full service production company creating bespoke events alongside wider theatrical shows and live events.

If you had to describe your work to someone who has never heard of you what would you say?

As a producer, I make the incredibly complicated look really easy. As a choreographer, I support my performers to elevate themselves beyond what they thought they could do.

What’s the funniest experience you’ve had in your business?

Oh wow, they would be unrepeatable.

What would your advice be to young people hoping to pursue the same industry?

Be you. Don’t compare yourself to other people all the time, that’s soul destroying. You have a voice, use it. Be polite. Be on time. Be professional. Be a pleasure to be in the room with.

Anything else you want to tell people about yourself or your work?

I’m passionate, I’m versatile, I’m unflappable, I’m a grafter and I deliver with a smile on my face.

Who do you look up to and why?

Gene Kelly, because he broke the mould of what a male lead was supposed to look like and brought joy, humour and great skill. Fosse because he broke the mould and created beauty in inversion and crafted a whole new movement aesthetic.
