Meet The Artist: Natalie Smyth

Natalie Smyth is a 30 year old Poet and children’s book Author from Belfast. Natalie began writing as a teenager and her love for words grew and she hasn’t stopped writing since. 

What genre / style do you create in?

Poetry.

What would you be best known for?

My love for writing.

What would you consider your biggest achievement?

Hopefully getting a children’s book published this year.

What would you consider to be the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your industry?

Don’t take anything for granted.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?

Having the courage to send work out to publishers.

Tell us a little about your personal life, are you married, kids, hobbies etc?

I work in the field of mental health with a charity called Mindwise. I have a partner of 3 and a half years and I love music and going to gigs.

Tell us about your most recent work?

Benny and Beth’s Bus Tours a children’s series. Benny, the bus driver a free spirit and Beth, the bus, the organised one, go out on tours with their passengers and characters on board.

What would you like us to tell people about?

My Facebook page, the writers centre, where people can catch up on all things writing related with me.

If you had to describe your work to someone who has never heard of you what would you say?

Be aware of some dark poems and be aware for some silliness in the children’s books.

What’s the funniest experience you’ve had in your business?

Some of the things that occur in workshops can give a good laugh at times.

What would your advice be to young people hoping to pursue the same industry?

It’s great fun but won’t pay the bills.

Anything else you want to tell people about yourself or your work?

Love writing and hope others love reading it.

Anne Sexton a very brave and courageous woman.
