Meet The Entrepreneur: Greg Quinn – People HQ

Greg Quinn (45) spent over 25 years in the industry working in senior HR leadership roles across a number of sectors, before launching People HQ, the HR consultancy firm.

He is from Co Tyrone originally admitting that he has been “a North Down blow in for some 20 years!”. Now he lives in Kircubbin, Newtownards as the proud dad to Chloe (9) and Nathan (15) and with his partner Gayle and their 3-year-old Springer Spaniel Buddy.

He enjoys keeping fit and spending time outdoors with the family. Greg is motivated to work hard for his clients to enable them to live the life they want to live.

Tell us a bit about your business?

People HQ is an HR consultancy based in Northern Ireland, People HQ is your headquarters for everything HR. Everything we do is people–focused, from HR Consultancy to Recruitment Consultancy we help companies achieve the success they deserve. Founded by Myself on the premise that nurturing the relationship between client and candidate will lead to a happier and more productive workforce in the long–term. We offer all of the HR support you’ll need in one place, serviced via our 3 divisions – human resources; recruitment; and development.

How did you come up with the idea for your business?

Across my 25 years career, I worked with many great consultants, however, I had to go to different sources if I needed different help. At People HQ the vision was to be a headquarter in terms of people needs for clients, that’s our strapline ‘ We’re the HQ for HR!’. The business has 3 core divisions that allow us to help clients across every aspect of the employee life cycle – Human Resources; Recruitment; and Development.

Having my own business also allows me to ‘add value’ to many businesses, not just the one that employs me at the time.

Who/What inspired you to start your business?

I was inspired to start my own business after attending a self-development workshop in England. I remember leaving the event and ringing Gayle and saying that’s it I am opening.

People HQ, no more procrastination. I remember that being an emotional call, I have never looked back.

Who is your target market?

At People HQ, we offer a variety of HR consulting services with clients across many different sectors. Whether you’re a small family business, an SME or a large organisation, if you want to retain great staff and allow your company to thrive, we’ll help you to make that happen. And because we take a holistic approach, you get all of the advice you need in one place, helping you to achieve your business goals quickly and with ease.

What gap in the market does your business fill?

We can help those business owners with no HR department or those who need greater capability or resource within their HR team or perhaps a HR project managed.

Who are your main competitors and what do you think sets your company apart from them?

There is some great HR consultancy firms across Northern Ireland. We set ourselves apart because we can offer out client a more holistic offering – We’re the HQ for HR’

What is your vision for the company over the next few years?

2021 will see the team grow and alongside this our brand awareness. Over the coming years we plan to open a second office around mid ulster.

What are the main achievements of the company so far?

Launching a business and growing a client base and building brand awareness during the pandemic has to be it! We have essentially grown the business from the ground up during the greatest downturn of out time.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far?

That building relationships, collaboration and networking is important in business.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting a business?

Go for it! Seek help and learn from those who have been there and done it before, it might stop you from making mistakes they have made in the past and save you valuable time and money.
