Neil Shawcross Presents Kinky and Friends In ArtisAnn Gallery

The ArtisAnn Gallery on East Belfast’s Bloomfield Avenue is to play host to a new selection of work from one of Ireland’s most eminent artists, Neil Shawcross.

The exhibition – Kinky and Friends – will run at the gallery until Saturday 28 August (closed for July break 13-17 July) and will feature some of the work that Neil has created over the last ten years.

Neil’s CV is certainly impressive. Elected an Associate of the Royal Ulster Academy of Art in 1975, and made a full Academician two years later, he is also the recipient of the Academy’s Gold Medal an amazing six times.

His work has been widely exhibited and he is renowned for his portraits and important commissions, including some which were exhibited in Belfast’s iconic Ulster Museum.

Six years ago, Neil was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to arts in Northern Ireland and it is fitting that his first post-pandemic exhibition is for the eyes of those across the province, who will wish to return to enjoy the world of art and all that it has to offer.

Kinky and Friends is a diverse but wide-ranging selection of Neil’s works, and includes his iconic Penguin book covers, his Dancers, along with his more recent paintings of letters, including some from the Andy Warhol archive.

Warhol also features in correspondence with musician Kinky Friedman, whose letters to David Torrens are also included in the collection.

In addition to the excitement created by this new, fabulous selection of artworks, visitors will also love the fact that all of the pieces are available to buy. And, even more excitingly, the art can be purchased through the Own Art scheme, which provides interest-free loans over ten months BUT you can take the art home as soon as the exhibition ends!

The exhibition runs at the ArtisAnn Gallery, 70 Bloomfield Avenue, Belfast until Saturday 28 August (closed for July break 13-17 July).

Admission is free.
