Nosey Neighbourhood Watch

According to a recent survey about what the UK would rather keep out of sight of nosey neighbours, ‘heated discussions’ came out on top with 43.1% of the votes. We’re not surprised that the nation is keen to close the blinds whilst they argue!

Other answers included:

  • An untidy outdoor area (22%)
  • A messy house (18%)
  • Displays of affection (7.7%)
  • Mealtimes (5.1%)
  • A lazy ‘afternoon on the couch’ was evidently less of a concern, with just 3.5% of people keen to hide it from the neighbours.

Luxaflex® have provided 5 top tips to keep your private life – private:

  1. Who doesn’t love a big window to enjoy watching the world pass by? However as the survey, of 1,000, UK-wide respondents, tells us – we’re keen to stop the world from looking in. To prevent this, consider adding “Top-Down / Bottom-Up” blinds aptly named “privacy blinds”. With a clever design that lets you open your blind from the top, the bottom, or anywhere in between – this privacy solution gives you the best of both worlds. Allowing you to preserve your home’s secrets and natural light, whilst stopping unwanted spectators.
  2. Adding window shades with different opacities gives you peace of mind that private activities will remain hidden without blocking out the world completely. Semi-opaque solutions softly diffuse light; and room darkening, whilst reducing full transparency.
  3. Windows aren’t the only way to see into a home. Be sure to consider adding a cover to the doors too – especially French doors and patios.
  4. Blinds allow you to have complete control over who sees what, allowing you to change the amount of light and levels of view-through; however they also help with room-darkening; allowing you to choose the right level of light and privacy to suit your home. Shades combine form and function, looking beautiful at your windows while keeping your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
  5. The survey highlights it’s not just the home we want to keep private but the garden too. If you fall within the 22% of people that would rather keep a messy garden area away from neighbours’ prying eyes, you might want to consider an awning – a way to transform any outdoor living space into an exclusive haven.

Who knows – you might be so happy with the new window coverings that you invite the neighbour’s round to have a look! To learn more about these solutions, you can find out more here.
