Ed Sheeran has shared with fans that he has tested positive for Covid-19 – less than one week before his latest album is due for release.
Ed’s fourth solo studio record, ‘=’, was announced back in August this year. The highly anticipated follow up to the critically acclaimed ‘÷’ album has been described by the singer as a ‘coming of age’ record, featuring hit singles ‘Bad Habits’ and ‘Shivers’ amongst a roster of yet unheard tracks.
The album drop had been scheduled for the 29th October and whilst the excitement had been palpable amidst his fans, Ed had yet more news to drop a week prior to release day.
The singer made an announcement on his Instagram saying he will be taking a break from promoting his new album to focus on his health following testing positive for Covid-19.
“Hey guys, Quick note to tell you that I’ve sadly tested positive for Covid so I’m now self-isolating and following the government guidelines,” posted Ed Sheeran onto his Instagram story.
“It means that I’m now unable to plough ahead with any in person commitments for now, so I’ll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house. Apologies to anyone I’ve let down. Be safe everyone x”.
The unfortunate news comes just prior to Ed Sheeran appearing on Saturday Night Live, leaving producers of the show in a tailspin to replace the artist at the last minute.
Whilst the in person promotional circuit for his new album has come to a halt, Ed Sheeran’s fans have assured that the hype train has not stopped. Fans continue to promote the new album online – whilst also wishing the artist a very speedy recovery.
