Talk about worlds colliding! Rapper Cardi B has been spotted interacting publicly online with Netflix star Penn Badgley.
The strange pairing all began back in 2019, when the ‘You’ leading actor mentioned Cardi in an interview.
Two years ago, the saga was initiated when co-star Shay Mitchell and Penn appeared on Philippines-based music out MYX Global. Whilst on the press junket, he shouted out Cardi B as being a celebrity with a positive relationship on social media.
MYX Global had then quoted Penn onto Twitter:
“Cardi B is a great example of that… I feel like she has an incredibly authentic relationship with her [followers] and that’s why people like her so much.”
In a strange twist of fate, Cardi B responded to the clip two years later after a fan reposted the clip onto twitter.
The chart tipping superstar is known to interact with her fans often on Twitter, where she harbours just under 20 million followers.
“OOOOMMFFFGGGGGG HE KNOWS ME !!!” Cardi B wrote on the 17th October 17, quote-tweeting a fan who resurfaced the clip.
Interspersed with ample emojis, her enthusiasm was very clear.
“OMMMGGGG!!!!!! Yoooo like I’m famous famous.”
Two days later, Penn Badgley took to his own social media where he retweeted Cardi’s excited outburst and added a simple emphatic “I-”.
He promptly changed his profile picture to one of Cardi B, which Cardi B promptly returned the favour. The pair swapped avatar images on their verified accounts.
To add to the weirdness, the official Netflix account soon got involved, changing its bio on twitter to: “Petition to get Cardi B to guest star in Season 4 of You.”
Cardi soon tweeted Netflix and gave her concept on how she should appear on the show, suggesting that she appears in a fashion show and ‘shuts it down’, before telling Netflix to “finish it off”.
Twitter then quoted WAP several times, posting pictures of Penn in You in related images to the text.
Badgley joked about the series of interactions with Cardi B on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“This is a thing that we have now, me and Cardi,” Badgley said, laughing. The actor however did not know whether or not Cardi B would indeed appear on the show – yet referenced the Change.org petition as a vehicle to helping the artist achieve her guest spot on You season 4.
