Romeo Santos visits families in need

Singer, songwriter and producer Romeo Santos has visited San Cristóbal to raise awareness of the poor living conditions that many have been experiencing.

The ex Aventura member turned successful soloist is working alongside Jopéame to tackle cases of extreme poverty within the Dominican Republic.

One of the families Romeo visited was that of a pair of siamese twins, Ana and Masiel.

The family of the young girls explained that the pair endured immense pain on a daily basis.

Ana and Masiel are conjoined at the chest and share three legs, an intestine, a bladder and a liver.

Romeo heard how the family desperately wanted to have the daughters physically examined and establish whether the girls could be safely separated from one another surgically. However, the expense of medical care was too great of a burden for the family to take.

Enter Jopéame, a charity dedicated to ending poverty within the Dominican Republic and beyond.

The charity aims to improve rates of childhood education, improve living conditions for the elderly and help facilitate medical aid in cases of healthcare inequality.  So far, the charity has raised more than RD $ 20,000,000.

This is not the first time Romeo Santos has campaigned for change with charities. Romeo is a part of the humanitarian initiative SOMOS UNA VOZ, established by Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. The celebrity collective aims to aid those affected by natural disasters in countries like Puerto Rico.

He has also fundraised for Scope and backed the #AllinChallenge just last year.

Earlier this year, Romeo Santos released a PPV event, ‘Romeo Santos:Utopia Live from Metlife Stadium’, which featured guests Cardi B, Daddy Yankee, Emilio Estefan, Marc Anthony and Thalía to name but a few.

However, the singer is using his platform to aid Ana and Masiel’s medical story, as well lend his support in tackling the “cradle of the Dominican Constitution ”.

Jopéame is aiming to raise RD $ 200,000 to support the twins and their family.
