Kevin Hart is known to all as an internationally acclaimed funny man, celebrity A-Lister and a dedicated father to his young family.
However, many may not remember that the comedian once had a family before.
Torrei Hart, a comedic actress in her own right, is Kevin Hart’s ex wife.
The pair had married back in 2003, just before Hart’s meteoric rise to fame.
However, come 2011, the couple filed for a divorce following Hart’s embroilment in a cheating scandal.
Torrei Hart recently opened up about her split from Kevin, discussing co-parenting and how the two have been coping following the incident.
During her interview with The Real, Ms. Hart discussed how the family dynamic was impacted by the split – as well as how she coped watching her divorce play out on screen.
“There were times I was like, ‘God, I don’t want to be here anymore.’ Because the divorce was very public, and I also had to watch him move on with another woman, and a whole other family,” she said.
“And then seeing my children in pictures with a new family. Most people when they go through divorce, they don’t have to see it in their face every day. And this is when Kevin was at the height of his career. So imagine I’m seeing it on the TV, I’m seeing it on movies, I’m seeing it play out on the internet.”
Torrei went on to explain that whilst the two did not work out as a romantic relationship, this does not mean that the two harbour resentment for one another.
“People just assume that for whatever reason that Kevin and I are enemies. He and I go way back. We met when we were 19 and 20. We were kids, and unfortunately, it didn’t work out romantically, and we co-parent very well for the kids.”
Kevin Hart has since went on to have two more children with his current wife, Eniko Hart – and whilst Torrei has moved on with her own life romantically, she has lambasted critics questioning the motive in keeping Hart as her own name.
“‘Cause it’s mine, first of all,” she said.
“Second of all, ’cause Kevin never asked for it back — he don’t want to give it back, he’s not trippin’. And third of all: my kids don’t want me to change my name.”
“That’s something that people always ask me,” she continued. “And I’m like: That’s my name — get over it! They’re gonna always have something to say, but I’m gonna be a Hart until I decide not to be. And that’s just what it is.”
