Taking a parcel in for a neighbour, inviting next door round for a cup of tea and having a pint in the local pub are some of the best ways to settle into a new community, according to a study.
Researchers also found simply saying hello, having a coffee with the neighbours and getting a dog are sure-fire ways to get to know your locals.
The study also identified the signs you’ve been accepted into a community, including bumping into someone you know every time you go out and receiving a Christmas card from a neighbour.
On average it takes up to six months to settle into a new community.
