Special Scheme Will Reward Four Northern Ireland Artists With Financial Support

Monday, August 15 is the deadline to apply

Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI) is inviting established artists with national or international recognition to apply for Major Individual Awards.

Four awards of up to £15,000 each are up for grabs and will be granted for implementing specific projects, specialised research, personal artistic development or purchasing equipment.

According to the Arts Council of Northern, in order to be eligible, candidates should have made a contribution to artistic activities in Northern Ireland for a minimum period of one year within the last five years; and, also be at least 18 years old and not in secondary education.

Making a broad range of funding available for both organisations and individuals, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland is the main provider of help for artists and arts organisations who have come under stark pressure as a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The year 2020-22021, for example, saw a 99 percent decline in income generated from ticket sales, and the employment in the artistic sector dropped by 25 percent, according to the survey published by ACNI in late 2021.

The goal of the Major Individual Awards scheme is to support Northern Ireland’s arts infrastructure by helping financially struggling artists with some of their essential costs.

The scheme accepts applications for a number of goals submitted by the applicants, including buying time for own practice or creation of new work, fees for training courses, paying for venue hire – for example, rehearsal space, artistic fees for mentors, production or post-production expenditures, translation or travel costs, travel, residency and accommodation-related spending and childcare costs.

The application process is disability-friendly and those who find it difficult to complete the online application form, are advised to contact the University of Atypical (UoA), who will provide tailored advice and support to D/deaf, disabled and Neurodiverse applicants when submitting applications to ACNI Programmes.

Applications must be submitted by 12 pm on Monday, August 15.

Interested artists must apply using ACNI’s online system only, as applications in hard copy or by email will not be accepted.
