I have always been a massive fan of Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman so I
was super excited for Bat Out Of The Hell: The Musical that runs at
Belfast’s Grand Opera House this week. If you haven’t got tickets then
you really are missing out on something very special.
I have never seen an audience so excited before a show and that build
up started as we arrived at the Grand Opera House to see loads of
motorcycles make their way down Great Victoria Street… All Revved
Up!
So let’s get inside. What’s the show all about?
I’m not going to give away any spoilers but the show is loosely based on Peter Pan and features a group of kids called ‘The Lost’ who will never age beyond 18.
We join Strat (Glenn Adamson), the leader of the rebellious gang as he falls in love with Raven (Martha Kirby), the beautiful daughter of the
tyrannical ruler of Obsidian, Falco (Rob Fowler).
The show of course features many classic hits and massive power
ballads including ‘You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth’, ‘Two
Out Of Three Ain’t Bad’, ‘Dead Ringer For Love’ ‘Heaven Can Wait’,
Celine Dion’s ‘All Coming Back To Me Now’ and ‘Making Love Out Of
Nothing At All’ (originally a hit for Air Supply in 1983 and also for Bonnie
Tyler in 1995).
My favourite moments were the hilarious version of ‘Paradise By The
Dashboard Light’ performed by Rob Fowler and Sharon Sexton who
plays Falco’s wife Sloane and a totally amazing version of ‘Bat Out Of
Hell’ to close the first half.
From start to finish this show will totally blow your mind with top class
rock vocals, amazing choreography, brilliant special effects and
excellent staging which combines video to make Bat Out Of The Hell:
The Musical a totally unique experience.
I must congratulate Glenn Adamson who is superbly cast in the role of
Strat. I have never seen a performer with so much energy and just
amazing vocals tackle all those big songs! Also, massive congratulations to all the cast and crew well deserved standing ovations from the Belfast audience who didn’t want this show to end and wanted to rock all night!
Bat Out Of Hell: The Musical is now my favourite show and you can
catch it at The Grand Opera House until Saturday.
