The UK is full of gorgeous cities that offer brilliant weekend trip opportunities. We could list dozens of places for you to go, but if you want a shortlist of the top three, then here you go:
Belfast
Belfast is an underrated city that many people from the UK neglect. If you’re a local, you’ll know it has plenty of things to do. From the beautiful Titanic Quarter to St George’s Market and a host of wonderful museums, you’ll find many activities around the city centre alone. Explore the outskirts of the city and you come across stunning scenery complete with guided tours around the Northern Irish coast.
It’s an amazing place to visit for a weekend and your itinerary will be jampacked. If you can, aim to go during August as the Waterfront comes alive with free music and a host of other attractions for people of all ages.
London
You can’t talk about UK cities without mentioning London. It has something for everyone. There are countless museums or pieces of history dotted around this huge city for those that want an educational experience. It’s littered with pubs and restaurants from every cuisine imaginable for foodies. There’s always live sports nearby too, with next season’s Premier League fixtures revealing the Community Shield takes place in Wembley at the start of August – a great opportunity for cheap football tickets.
London tickles every travel desire you may have, and in truth, you could spend more than a weekend here. But, if you want a quick city break in the UK, this is a place to add to your list.
Edinburgh
We’ve had a city from Northern Ireland, a city from England and now a city from Scotland to round things off – sorry Wales! Edinburgh is comfortably one of the most beautiful cities in the UK. It has such unique architecture and large slopes give you exceptional views of the city and its surrounding areas. You feel like you’re in a Harry Potter film when you’re here, only the magic happens on the streets instead of in a fancy castle.
You must visit the Old Town while you’re here and discover the delights of the National Museum of Scotland. We recommend climbing Arthur’s Seat
too – it’s a large hill that’s technically an ancient volcano but gives you the best views of Edinburgh and is perfect for Instagram photos. If you’ve never been here before, it’s worth checking out the local shops and restaurants too – there are some amazing hidden gems, including one place that only serves porridge!
We can’t close this article without adding a few honourable mentions. Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and represents one of the most developed places of the last two decades. It’s a vibrant city with a cool Bay area and plenty of things to do. York is also another place worth looking into – it offers completely different vibes to all these other cities, giving you a quieter experience full of stunning small streets and cafes. Finally, if you want a seaside trip that’s full of life and excitement, give Brighton a visit.
