Measuring A New Business’ Success: 3 Metrics To Keep An Eye On

New business owners can measure their current success by following a few key metrics. Doing so can let them know how well they’re performing right now, and how well they’re likely to perform in the future. As such, if you’re a new business owner and have a company that’s only six months to a year old, this is something to think about.

Of course, getting bogged down in the numbers isn’t a good idea, but having a general idea of what your business is capable of is always essential. And if you’re not sure what KPIs to keep in mind, here are three major ones to track over the next few months.

Web Traffic

Looking at the analytics that track your web traffic can tell you a few things. We’re interested in a couple here. Firstly, how many new hits you’re getting every day. How many unique visitors do you get on a monthly basis? These could be new customers if you manage to capture the leads correctly.

Secondly, how much web traffic are you getting overall? It’s OK to see a dip every now and then, but you don’t want to witness a steady decline in website visitors. This is a surefire sign something is going wrong, and you’ll need to do plenty of investigating to find out what.

ROI

Return on investment isn’t just a metric for your investors to track. While companies like freshstream will be looking out for the money you’re bringing in, it’s something you should keep an eye on as well.

You want to know you’re making good money off of the decisions you make, especially in terms of concepts like marketing, new hires, and ongoing product development. However, you won’t be able to track the success of these risks without measuring what you spent on them against what you’re making through them.

If you can make at least 5% on the money you invested, you’ve got a ‘positive’ ROI. Of course, you’re going to want to grow those numbers as much as possible, but don’t discount the small returns either. It’s still a return and can leave your bank much fuller than it was before.

Satisfaction and Feedback

Customers will tell you when they’re satisfied – they’ll leave a good review about their experience! This makes it one of the best metrics to track as a new company. After all, if you’re delivering to your customer base from the moment you form as a business, it’s a very good sign for the future.

So do a count right now: how many sales have you made, and how many reviews have been returned? You don’t need to get feedback from every single customer, but if you can get a positive review for every 20 or so sales, you’re on the right track.

If you want to measure the success of a new business, you need to follow a few KPIs. Set them with intent, keep an eye, and follow the results.
