What to pack for a multi-destination holiday?

If you’re visiting multiple countries during the same trip, you’ll need to pack a range of clothes and accessories to ensure you have suitable options for each of your destinations. If that sounds overwhelming and you don’t know where to start, our team has put together this guide to help.

Research your destinations carefully

Before you begin packing, you should carefully research your destinations. You need to understand their climates, terrain, cultural expectations, and activities to ensure you’re fully prepared.

Each of these elements can help refine your decision-making process and help you select the best outfits for your travels. You might also want to look at the predicted weather forecast to further fine-tune your clothing choices.

Focus on versatile clothing

If you’re travelling between different climates, the most ideal options will include several light, multifunctional layers. With these in your pack, you are protected from both hotter and colder environments.

You should also consider bringing neutral colours that can be easily paired with multiple options to improve the versatility of your outfits. This can also ensure that you have several options which can easily transition from suitable daytime wear to an evening event.

Use packing cubes and a capsule wardrobe

It can be tricky trying to get everything to fit in one bag, which is where packing cubes come in. Packing cubes provide excellent compression, which can maximise space while keeping your items separate and easy to find.

Of course, some options will be much more effective than others, so we don’t recommend getting the cheapest option. Instead, shop around and see which ones are highly rated.

Plan for varying toiletries and essentials

The toiletries you need are likely to vary between different climates, so you’ll likely need a range of products. For instance, if you are going on a multiple-stop holiday, such as a Caribbean cruise, you’re more likely to need bug repellent in a tropical and shaded climate.

Another point to consider is the space required for your toiletries. Liquid options can take up a lot of space and are limited by size on flights. Instead, consider solid toiletries where possible, as this can let you pack a larger amount without using additional space.

Organise documents and travel tech

A universal adaptor can be lifesaving in the modern age, especially once your portable charger runs out of power. You should also consider getting a travel wallet and printing physical copies of your tickets and reservations. While you likely won’t need to use them, having a backup is the smart move, just in case your phone dies or loses connection right when you need it.

Be smart about footwear

Taking multiple pairs of shoes can quickly consume your limited space. They’re bulky and can be heavy, so minimising your options is your best bet. We suggest you follow the ‘three-pair rule’, especially when travelling between locations.

Ultimately, you want a pair of comfortable everyday shoes, like trainers. These can be worn no matter what the event, and typically to travel in too. You should also have a pair of evening shoes, which can put an impressive touch on any evening outing. Finally, you’ll want some activity-specific footwear, like hiking shoes, if you’re planning on trekking and mountainous adventures.
